Lake Cumberland is one of the largest reservoirs in the eastern United States, and in October the Daniel Boone National Forest surrounding it puts on a show. The hardwood hillsides come down to the water and the lake reflects the color back up. It is the kind of thing that photographs itself. Start in Greensburg and head east on US-68 through rolling farm country to Somerset, the lake's northern gateway. Pick up KY-80 west and follow the northern shore of Cumberland Lake toward Russell Springs, then drop south on KY-92 to Jamestown on the water. Four Kentucky Coffee Trail shops anchor this route from Greensburg to Jamestown. Peak color hits the lake country between October 15 and 25.

Tip

KY-80 along the lake and KY-92 to Jamestown. Stay on the lake roads.
